Bourgeois Meat Market is an institution in south Louisiana. Serving up boudin, hogshead cheese, smoked sausage and whatever else can be wrapped in white butcher paper, the place does things simply but does it right.
Take, for instance, the beef jerky. Long, skinny strips of beef are smoked for hours on end until they have that perfect jerky texture but retain much of the moistness.
This is not a jerky that is reminiscent of Liquid Smoke or flavored with some fancy bourbon, it is straight up salty beef with a peppery kick and REEKING (in a very good way of course) of the smokehouse from which it came.
Bite into a strip and you can tell this is the real deal; the dark center is surrounded by a perfect pink smoke ring. As Lays so famously put it, I bet you can’t eat just one!

I always make a trip before Thanksgiving, Christmas and before my birthday at the end of March. I also agree with Anita, in that they have the best of many items. The andouille is also the best I have ever had the pleasure to eat. I am more than qualified to say so because I have a culinary arts degree -obtained in New Orleans! Also, I have had the pleasure to have enjoyed many different andouilles and Bourgeois has THE BEST! Their aged meat is very reasonable in price, too. I just purchased some AGED ribeye at only $9.99 a pound. Heck, the price for regular ribeye is more than that in the grocery stores. BOURGEOIS’ IS THE BOMB – TICK, TICK!!!

My son in law had the beef jerky and boudin when he visited us in Houma. Now everytime I visit my daughter in Florida I must bring them a pound or two.

Sometime ago I went to LA and ate meat from Bourgeois.
Very, very good!
Now I want to buy beef jerky by internet (I am in Brazil) and credit card.
Do you know how to do this?
Thanks

Hi Edwardo!
There is no website or online store for Bourgeois Meat Market. Your best bet would be to call the store @ (985) 447-7128. I know that they do ship certain products within the States, but I’m not sure their policies on shipping out of the country. Good luck!

Gave the “Boucherie in a Box” to the in laws as Christmas gifts. They were a hit. It contained a sampling of sausages, jerky, hogshead cheese all nicely packaged.

It has been many years since I last ate beef jerky from Bourgeois Meat Market but even now its delectable taste cannot be forgotten.
Unfortunately, they don’t sell that in Switzerland.

Best jerky on the planet no doubt. But if you go there only for the jerky you are missing out on a whole new world of wonderful flavors in cheeses.

I can echo the above commenters that this is some fine southern jerky. But as pointed out, do NOT short change yourself by just walking out with jerky. Spice it up with cheese, sausage, whatever you fancy. This is one of those rare places where you really can’t “mess it up” by trying something new.

This is the best jerky ever, I grew up a couple blocks from Bourgeois; therefore, I grew up with this beef jerky! I know, best childhood ever! Nothing else compares! I read a comment asking if they ship internationally, they ship accross the world, I know of a guy who has it shipped to Russia, but I believe the price is pretty steep.

Wow! This is my favorite stuff. I used to eat a lot of long beef strips when I was a child. My grandfather used to make beef meat into long and thin strips and hang them to a thin wire. If you bite it once, you would surely finish them off.
Great to know about this blog post. Thanks!
