I wanted to make sure I picked a title that didn’t over hype how I feel about this sandwich… I think I nailed it. Tucked along Bayou Lafourche in Raceland, about a half mile or so away from Hwy 90 on LA 1, sits my favorite little hole in the wall, The Goal Post. Since I was a little boy, I have enjoyed the simple pleasures of (in my opinion) the finest BBQ Roast Beef Po-Boy you will find anywhere. Better than any Roast Beef Po-boy I’ve eaten in New Orleans or anywhere else for that matter. I know I’m biased. Basically, the formula and BBQ sauce have remained the same for as long as I can remember: a flat piece of French bread loaded with shaved beef smothered in a terrific BBQ sauce and I always get it dressed with lettuce, tomato and mayo.
The Goal Post has no indoor seating and only a few benches outside if you have to eat it there. Mostly everyone orders and takes it home, but it’s always best to call ahead or you could be waiting a while if you catch them at a busy time. My wife is especially fond of the regular Roast Beef Po-Boy and my mom always loved their hot dogs, but for me, it has and always will be the BBQ Po-Boy that floats my boat. Now all my fancy pants Thibodaux friends can stop by on their way to their fancy pants camps in Grand Isle. Enjoy!

I bet that would go perfectly IN MY MOUTH!
From the looks of it, reminds me of the BBQ beef at the old Mark’s Grocery in Thibodaux, or maybe that was a a childhood dream that I still think about on occasion…

I, too, love the Goal Post in Raceland, but my favorite thing there is the Cajun Burger – it is spicy and reminds me of a favorite place of mine that used to be pre-Katrina called Pop Weaver’s near Delgado College in NO – the place was closed for a while but re-opened and they do not have the spicy burgers anymore. Thank goodness for the Goal Post – good place to stop on the way to and from Grand Isle.

Never, never forget (nor pass by) Grumpy’s in Paradis. Be sure you have some time as they are slow but well worth the wait. Super sloppy roast beef. Wear old clothes!

That looks amazing. I’ll have to check that out next time I’m down there.
Gravy fries would be good, Valerie, but I think sweet potato fries would be better.

I lived in Raceland for 18 years and now live in New York City. Not a week goes by with out me thinking about Goal Post’s AMAZING burgers, they are the best I have ever had (and I eat alot of burgers). Though the burger is my personal favorite there roast beef poyboys come in a very close second. I have flown into New Orleanse for a 2 day visit and drove all the way to Raceland just for a burger and turned right back around and I will do it again.
