A friend of mine had a party for St. Patty’s Day two or three years ago and he had on tap some beer brewed by a co-worker at a local restaurant. Always one to try out new beers, I quickly fixed myself a glass of this “home-brewed” beer.
Lets just say that that was not the last glass that I filled, as this beer was exceptional in taste and body and had me wondering why someone who could brew a beer so good in flavor was not doing it for a living and for the masses. Well, that question has finally been answered with the release of NOLA Brewing Company’s beer.
When I first had a glass of NOLA Blonde at The Bulldog, I immediately recognized the taste of this “new” beer. My buddy was now at culinary school in New York so I called him to see if by some chance, his friend was brewing beer for NOLA Brewery. To no surprise, the NOLA brew that I was drinking at The Bulldog was in fact the same delicious brew that I had enjoyed earlier.
NOLA Brewing Company is the new micro-brewery in New Orleans and collaboration of Kirk Coco and Peter Caddoo. Coco, an entrepreneur and local New Orleanian, thought it strange that New Orleans does not have a micro-brewery, especially considering the fact that the city was once home to quite a few breweries such as Dixie, Falstaff, Jax, etc.
Being the entrepreneur that he is, Coco decided to do something about this void. Caddoo, once the master brewer at Dixie Beer was brought on board to make this project come to fruition. With Coco’s savvy and Caddoo’s knack for great beer, NOLA Brewing has been off and running.
The company’s beer first showed up on tap at local taverns in March of this year. Currently, NOLA is offering two varieties of brews: a blonde ale and a brown ale. They are only available as a draft and plans to bottle the stuff is nowhere in the future. They do have plans to offer seasonal varieties of brews in the fall of this year, though.
Their motto is:
“New Orleans Lager & Ale Brewing Company...………. bringing the history and tradition of beer back to New Orleans with fine craft-brewed beer.”
“Laissez la bonne biere verser!”…….Let the good beer pour!
You can enjoy NOLA brew at any of these places…. I’ll see you there!

Ahhhh!! Beat me to it. Great post. The blonde and the brown are both excellent.
Before prohibition, New Orleans was one of the biggest brewing cities in the country. Its a shame how things turn out, but hopefully, NOLA will start up the tradition again.
