Just a quick post to get your thoughts on killer andouille. My top 5 are:
- Jacob’s in Laplace
- Bourgeois Meat Market in Thibodaux
- Bergeron’s in Port Allen
- Benoit’s Country Meat Block in Addis
- Best Stop in Scott
Am I missing somewhere?
Note: Yes, I have added a new category for Sausage. Yes, I like sausage that much.

I live in Laplace and have yet to go to Jacobs. What cracks me up is that Bailey’s is next door.

See, I have never tried Bailey’s as the lure of Jacob’s was too strong, but I have read a lot about it. It seems that the andouille battle between the two places is becoming something similar to Pat’s and Gino’s in Philly for the cheesesteak. People go to one place and are loyal to it, even when there is another place next door.
Practically the same thing goes on in Lockhart, Texas with the BBQ… Kreuz, Smitty’s, and Black’s are within a 1/2 mile of each other and are all regularly ranked as the top in the country.
I take it Bailey’s must be some good stuff then huh Valerie?

I have never tried either place to be honest with you. I don’t particularly care for andouille! I will have to check both places out one of these days. My brother actually prefers Veron’s in Gramercy.

Bailey’s and Jacob’s taste very close to me. But I tell you what I won’t make a gumbo without it

@Valerie – I was beginning to think that I was the only New Orleanian/Louisianan who doesn’t care for andouille… thanks!

I think your listings are pretty accurate. Jacob’s is the bomb!

I don’t live in LA, but I always stop at BEST STOP to pick up fresh andouile on my way out from a job. I think they got it right with the amount of cayenne and black pepper, along with the other spices. Firm and cuts up well for gumbos and Indian dishes. Sauted with eggs (instead of bacon) Yummy!
